Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust.

Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust.

At the Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma CA, They do things by hand. When it came time to lower the casket and put the vault cover over it, four burly men came out and used straps to do it. Then members of the funeral party, one by one, took the grave diggers’ shovel and placed dirt in the gapping hole over the coffin. And I, as a chaplain USV/A, and minister UCC, read the traditional words.

“In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother NOEL THORNTON SKIDMORE; and we commit his body to the ground; earth-to-earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious unto him, the Lord lift up his countenance upon him and give him peace. Amen”
